Activity 1:

Analyze the plates, The Bottle, by George Cruikshank to identify the moral and physical effects of alcohol. In these plates,also consider the theme of freedom.
  • Who is entitled to enjoy their freedom and who is not?
  • Who stood to gain? Who stood to lose?
  • What rights and responsibilites are associated with freedom?


Write a persuasive essay either supporting or refuting the artist’s point of view on the effects of alcohol.
